Original Kailhofer's Greenhouse

The Beginning

Kailhofer’s began in 1956, when Bob Kailhofer and his father, Frank, purchased the Floral shop from the Droeger family. Bob had an interest in plants, and worked several summers for Droeger’s prior to a sudden illness of Stewart Droeger, which lead to his passing. Bob, with his wife Letty, and Frank and his wife, Gert, became partners and the sole workers. The original building included two 50 ft. greenhouses, a lean-to, a small office space and show room.

The Transition

Barry Kailhofer, son of Bob and Letty, set off to UW Madison to earn a degree in Horticulture, and came back to join his family in growing the business, becoming a partner in 1977. With additions to the show room and greenhouses, along with a few land purchases they were able to triple the size of the original building, and double the size of the nursery. They then expanded into more Landscaping and Nursery stock.

In 1994, Barry became the sole owner of the business and began expanding the greenhouse portion of the operation.

New Ownership

On December 31, 2020 longtime employee Kayla Raether and her husband, Scott, purchased this longstanding business. At 17, Kayla started working at Kailhofer’s planting flowers for spring. She left to study Horticulture at UW- Madison and returned to Seymour with her degree to continue her journey at Kailhofer’s. Scott comes from a farming background, and is transitioning into “indoor farming,” where the conditions are always controlled and the temperature is always 60 degrees or warmer. Kayla and Scott had a few new visions in mind for the showroom and converted the showroom into a store front, featuring gifts, wine and cheese, creating a new shopping element to the greenhouse. They strive to continue to serve Seymour and it’s surrounding communities with quality products and customer service.

Here at Kailhofer’s Greenhouse, our goal is to provide our community with high quality products. We work hard to keep our storefront and greenhouses filled with new and trending products, providing our community the opportunity to shop local. Thank you to all of our customers that continue to support our business. We wouldn’t be here without you!
